Antique Malay Fishermen Tackle Box / Kotak Ke Laut

Pictures below show an antique Malay fishermen tackle box or 'kotak ke laut' (in Malay) from my collection. The Malay fishing tackle box have for many years been an essential part of the anglers equipment. Fishing tackle boxes were normally made of jack fruit wood and filled with beautiful carvings. It is considered unique because the box does not use any nails. Fishing tackle boxes have also been made with drawers. Some of these types of tackle box also have lids on the drawers which helps to stop small tackle from mixing.

Besides using it to keep fishing tackle, tobaccos and moneys, the fishermen also use the tackle box as a place to sit while fishing, or as a floating device in case of any accidents.

Length : 32cm, Width : 14.5cm, Height : 14.5cm.
