Beautiful Dayak Brass Container

This beautiful Dayak brass container was bought from Lachau, Sarawak. Lachau or Pekan Lachau is well known for stopovers with tourists on route visiting the original Iban longhouses near Lubuk Antu or Batang Ai (where the Longhouse Hilton is located). It is also a favourite toilet stop for drivers and also visitors on this long journey. However, on the weekends, this place thrives with local activity like a day market with locals selling all sorts of local products and crafts.

This brass container is believed to be used for the exchanging gift ceremony for the Dayak people during the wedding ceremony.

Height : 20cm, Diameter : 23cm

Teochew Peach-Shaped Dumpling (红桃粿) Moulds

Also commonly referred to as “p’ng (rice) kueh” or “Teochew ang (red) kueh“, the Teochew peach-shaped kueh is traditionally known as “红桃粿”, pronounced as “ang toh kway” in Teochew (a dialect of Chinese) which means “red peach cake/dumpling”. Essentially, this Teochew delicacy is shaped like a peach, features a pink coloured sticky but tender skin that is stuffed with the most fragrant glutinous rice.

The Teochew people always have this prepared during the Chinese New Year celebrations because the peach is regarded in Chinese lore as a symbol of longevity.

Pictures below showing two Teochew peach-shaped dumpling moulds from my collection.
